What Is an ADHD Assessment?
An ADHD assessment is a structured process used to understand how attention, impulse control, and executive functioning impact your day-to-day life.
There’s no quick test or quiz that can diagnose ADHD. It is a complex neurodevelopmental condition that requires a comprehensive approach.
In practice, ADHD is identified through a full assessment that combines interviews, questionnaires, and clinical interpretation to provide a neuro-affirming and accurate understanding of your experiences. Our psychologists use evidence-based tools such as the DIVA interview, Conners Behaviour Rating Scales, and Vanderbilt questionnaires to build a complete picture of each client’s needs.
Our psychologists have extensive experience supporting individuals who experience challenges related to ADHD. Symptoms include:
Difficulty Focusing
Easily Distracted
Difficulty Organizing Tasks
Mind Seems Elsewhere
Time Blindness
Trouble Following Instructions
Losing Items Frequently
Avoids Difficult Tasks
Fidgets or Stims
Feeling Restless
Constant Movement
Talking Excessively
Difficulty Waiting
Interrupts or Intrudes
Acting Impulsively
Emotional Overwhelm
Low Frustration Tolerance
Difficulty Relaxing
ADHD symptoms can look different across ages and genders. Many adults, especially women, may experience emotional exhaustion, mental fatigue, masking behaviours, or internal restlessness rather than visible hyperactivity. If these patterns have been present since childhood and continue to affect focus, relationships, or well-being, it may be time to consider a professional ADHD assessment for clarity and support.
Our ADHD Assessment Process: Step by Step
At Hively Health, we understand that beginning an ADHD assessment can feel both relieving and overwhelming. Our team takes time to make the process clear, collaborative, and supportive from start to finish.
1. Intake Session
A detailed discussion about developmental history, current concerns, and goals. This session helps your clinician tailor assessment tools to your needs.
2. Assessment Session
Structured diagnostic interview and completion of validated questionnaires in a calm, supportive environment.
3. Scoring & Interpretation
Your psychologist reviews and interprets all results, integrating questionnaire data, interviews, and observations to form a holistic clinical understanding.
4. Comprehensive Report Preparation
You’ll receive a written report outlining results, a recommended diagnosis (if applicable), and personalised strategies to support you moving forward.
5. Feedback Session
Discussion of reports, and outline practical next steps. You’ll have space to ask questions and leave with clarity and confidence about what comes next.
For clients under 18, reports can be verified by a paediatrician or child psychiatrist. For adults, formal diagnosis is completed by a psychiatrist.
Additional Support Options
Optional extras are available to provide a deeper understanding and tailored support.
