Adult ADHD Assessment
Many adults seek an ADHD assessment and diagnosis after years of feeling that something just doesn’t quite fit. Difficulties with focus, time management, or organisation may have been present since childhood, or you might have found yourself working twice as hard to stay on track while quietly feeling overwhelmed.
Our Clinic
At Hively Health, we provide comprehensive adult ADHD assessments that are evidence-based, neuro-affirming, and grounded in empathy. Our clinic offers a calm, supportive space where adults can explore the possibility of ADHD with confidence and care.
Our psychologists take the time to understand your individual experiences and challenges, offering clarity and practical guidance to help you navigate daily life with greater confidence and self-understanding. Each assessment is conducted using validated tools, structured interviews, and a person-centred approach to ensure accuracy and understanding.
Why is ADHD in Adults Is Often Missed?
For many people, ADHD wasn’t recognised in childhood. Decades ago, ADHD was thought to affect mostly young boys with visible hyperactivity.
We now know that ADHD can look very different in adults — and especially in women, where symptoms may be more internal and less disruptive.
Adults with ADHD often:
- Appear organised or high-achieving while struggling behind the scenes
- Experience emotional exhaustion from constant masking or overcompensating
- Feel chronically overwhelmed, forgetful, or “mentally scattered”
- Struggle to maintain focus, motivation, or energy throughout the day
- Find relationships or work performance affected by inattentiveness or impulsivity
Late diagnosis can bring mixed emotions: relief, frustration, even grief for missed support. At Hively Health, we hold space for all of that, helping you make sense of your story and move forward with understanding and confidence.
How ADHD May Present in Adults
ADHD in adults often includes patterns such as:
- Difficulty initiating or completing tasks despite strong intentions
- “All-or-nothing” productivity cycles or hyperfocus on areas of interest
- Poor time management, forgetfulness, or losing track of priorities
- Impulsivity in spending, speaking, or decision-making
- Emotional sensitivity and quick frustration
- Restlessness, anxiety, or inability to fully relax
- Persistent self-criticism and feelings of underachievement
Many adults describe feeling like their brain is always switched on, constantly jumping between ideas, responsibilities, and worries. Understanding that these patterns are part of ADHD, not a personal flaw, can be profoundly validating.
Our Adult ADHD Assessment Process: Step by Step
Our team takes the time to make every stage of assessment clear and collaborative, creating a supportive environment where you feel understood, informed, and confident throughout your journey.
1. Intake Session
A detailed discussion about developmental history, current concerns, and goals. This session helps your clinician tailor assessment tools to your needs.
2. Assessment Session
Structured diagnostic interview and completion of validated questionnaires in a calm, supportive environment.
3. Scoring & Interpretation
Your psychologist reviews and interprets all results, integrating questionnaire data, interviews, and observations to form a holistic clinical understanding.
4. Comprehensive Report Preparation
You’ll receive a written report outlining results, a recommended diagnosis (if applicable), and personalised strategies to support you moving forward.
5. Feedback Session
Discussion of reports, and outline practical next steps. You’ll have space to ask questions and leave with clarity and confidence about what comes next.
Reports can be shared with your GP or psychiatrist for diagnostic confirmation or treatment planning. Learn more about our ADHD Assessments.
Therapeutic and Practical Support
Diagnosis alone isn’t the end of the process, it’s the start of informed support.
Following your ADHD assessment, your psychologist will discuss:
- Therapy options: Cognitive-behavioural, schema, or acceptance-based approaches for executive function, motivation, and emotional regulation.
- Practical strategies: Tools for time management, organisation, and focus at work or study.
- Medical referral: Guidance on seeking confirmation and medication review with a psychiatrist if appropriate.
- Co-occurring challenges: Support for anxiety, low mood, or burnout often linked to undiagnosed ADHD.
You’ll leave with both clarity and a practical plan to help manage symptoms and leverage your strengths.
Workplace and Study Considerations
For adults, understanding how ADHD influences focus, organisation, and time management at work can make a profound difference. Recognising these patterns allows you to identify strengths, build effective strategies, and seek the right workplace supports or adjustments. With the right insight and tools, challenges that once felt frustrating can become opportunities for improved performance and confidence.
